History of RiverWind

"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." Acts 1:8 (NIV)

Early Years (Birth to Early Life)

Ruth Hidalgo was born in the jungle city of Pucallpa, Peru. Her complicated birth led Victor Posada, the first national missionary from Peru to the indigenous in the jungle, to pray for her safe birth and dedicate her as a future missionary, taking his place as a Peruvian missionary.. Despite this, Ruth aspired to become an educator in Lima, Peru's capital, and succeeded beyond her dreams, becoming a credentialed teacher in a prestigious school.

A Turning Point (2003)

When Victor Posada passed away, Ruth was asked to give his eulogy. Overwhelmed but honored, she spoke about his role in her life. This moment became a turning point, calling her into mission work with the indigenous communities. In 2003, Ruth returned to the jungle, researched teaching materials suitable for Oral cultures, and began visiting small, typically isolated jungle villages to share the stories of God's Word.

A New Chapter (2010)

Ruth's life took a new turn when she met and married Dick Robinson. Together, they continued the mission work, and teaching the stories of the Bible to peoples in oral rather than reading cultures in the jungle. While honeymooning in Colorado in 2010, they attended a church where Ruth prayed for three specific things: American citizenship, resources to expand the ministry in Peru, and the founding of a nonprofit organization to coordinate their efforts.

God's Answers (2014)

By 2014, Ruth's prayers were answered. She became a U.S. citizen, supporters and donors rallied to their cause, and RiverWind Inc was officially registered in the U.S. as a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization, and in Peru as Asociación RiverWind Perú.

Full-Time Mission (December 2014)

In December 2014, Ruth and Dick relocated to Pucallpa, on the Ucayali River to fully dedicate themselves to the mission. They focus on encouraging churches, equipping leaders, and engaging communities in the District of Tahuania, upriver on the Ucayali.

Founder + CEO + Board Member of RiverWind, Inc.

Ruth Hidalgo

From her roots in Pucallpa, a port city on Peru’s Ucayali River, Ruth‘s dedication to the Kingdom of God led her and her husband, Dick Robinson, to found RiverWind and move to Peru in 2014. As CEO of this Christian nonprofit, she serves remote people groups in the Amazon jungle. Ruth’s influence extends further as she holds Peru’s Country Director position for Development Associates International (DAI) and is the President of Asociación RiverWind Peru. An educator by profession, her passion lies in sharing the gospel through culturally relevant biblical stories with indigenous communities, a mission she carries out by leading a bilingual and bicultural Peruvian team in her home city.
